Last week the large section of Nieuw Amsterdam that was built at Fincantieri’s Sestri yard near Genoa, Italy, was towed around the foot of Italy to our yard here in Venice. Once it arrived, the section was floated into the building dock and later in the week put on the blocks.
The section that signifies the keel laying ceremony will be lifted into the building dock and later joined with the section built in Sestri that already is in the building dock.
Here are some more pictures after the section was put on the blocks and the dock was pumped dry. Please note that the large tank on the aft of the ship was used to level the section before it could be put on to the blocks.
Pieter Rijkaart is the director of newbuilds for Holland America Line.
What is the ship in the background of the first image? Is that one of Costa’s newbuilds?
Thank you Roland fore you’re prompt response after my mail. These are interesting pictures. Is there a new approach in building by Fincantiëre. As far I know the Eurodam was build completely at the Venice yard. It feels good to see the name Nieuw Amsterdam on a bow again.
Thanks fore the update.
