One of my (many) favorite destinations is the transit through the Panama Canal. Not because it still amazes me after 10 years, I more so like it just to hear the reactions of those guests who sail through the canal for the very first time. Bert van Mackelenbergh is Statendam’s hotel manager.
We spent the entire day going through the Panama Canal, entering at approximately 4:00 AM at Balboa on the Pacific Ocean side until 3:00 PM when we exited the Gatun Lock on the Caribbean side.
