‘Mighty Mo’ Welcomes Amsterdam Guests

On Nov. 16, guests booked in verandah suites aboard the full cruise of Amsterdam’s Grand Asia & Australia cruise enjoyed a once-in-a-lifetime experience during an exclusive Officer’s Club Theme Event on the USS Missouri located at Pearl Harbor, Honolulu, Hawaii.

As guests arrived for the special event, commemorative military hats and leis were given to all, followed by ship tours. The Battleship Missouri Memorial is located on historic Battleship Row in Pearl Harbor, a mere ship-length away from the USS Arizona Memorial at the still-active naval base.

“Mighty Mo,” best known as the site of the end of World War II, where Gen. Douglas MacArthur accepted the official surrender of Japan in September 1945 on the deck of USS Missouri. Visitors from around the world are dazzled by the ship’s sheer size, and by the values of duty, honor, strength, resolve and sacrifice it symbolizes.

Guests had pictures taken under the battleship guns with female entertainers dressed in period uniforms similar to the Andrew Sisters singing group. The ship’s fantail — a former flight deck — located just aft of the location where a Japanese Kamikaze struck the ship during the Okinawa campaign, provided the perfect setting for guests to enjoy a delicious spread of hors d’oeuvres, as well as entertainment and dancing to the sounds of the 1940s-era tunes.
