Veendam Postcard from Mexico

We received this great photo and note from guest Jodi Currie.

We sailed on the Veendam to Mexico October 24th to 31st, 2009. Days before we set sail from San Diego a hurricane had hit the areas we were traveling to (Mazatlan, Puerta Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas). The ship’s officers let us know the benefit of following a hurricane was the unusually calm waters — as you can see from this photo. Another benefit for us is all the wildlife that seemed to be out enjoying the calm after the storm. We saw schools of dolphins with hundreds of animals playing and racing the ship; many, many whales — humpback and grey; seals and even a shark.

I was traveling with my Mom who can’t afford to take many vacations and hasn’t seen wildlife as much as I have and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience for her. The whole trip was wonderful and thankfully the damage to Mexico was very minimal from the hurricane.

I know HAL can’t control the weather but on top of it all the cruise was fantastic, as usual. It was our second cruise with HAL. We sailed on the Volendam years ago to Alaska. We love the size of the ships, the awesome staff and especially our lanai room — great idea!

Thanks for making our vacation so amazing — again!

the retreat is a joke, we call it the swamp, no one used it on a thirty day cruise, we want pool back. We cooled off by going to the showers , the swamp was either empty or dirty.
