2010 Seahawks Cruise – Day 3

2010 Seahawks Cruise
Day 3, March 22

Today is our 3rd day on the water. We had our group photo, Chalk Talk session with the players and an autograph party! The guys are having a really great time with our Seahawks fans. During the Chalk Talk Session, Will Herring shared about what happened during a game as the kickoff coverage team was getting ready to cover a kickoff.

I also asked Ben Obomanu what Matt Hasselbeck was like in the huddle when the pass protection breaks down and Ben said that Matt will use his humor and come into the huddle grabbing his back and do some stretches and say something like “Hey guys my back is killing me and it’s a little tight … you guys want to help me out a little.” Ha!

We have all seen players jump up and down getting ready to run down for the kickoff, but there was one player that was very, very hyped up so the players talked him into doing the “stanky leg” dance. He started doing the dance and the players were huddled around him encouraging him. The ball was kicked off and the Seahawks got down the field and tackled the opponent inside the 20 yard line and everyone was congratulating each other as they ran off the field.

Then the Seahawks scored and it was time for the kickoff team to go again. Once again the players encouraged the same player to do the “stanky leg” dance. This time he really got into it and was getting down low and funky with it. This time however Coach Holmgren was watching this player doing his dance.

The ball was kicked off and the opposing returned the ball all the way down the field to the Seahawks 30 yard line for about a 60 yard return. When the player was coming off the field Coach Holmgren met him unhappily. The player looked around for some help and there were no team mates around to bail him out!

Josh Wilson is a player that likes to keep things loose even in the most intense moments on the field. He shared that once when the defense was in the huddle and it was a really intense and important time in the game and everyone in the huddle was serious and talking about each man doing his job and Josh stepped in and just said out loud …”Hey man I am really hungry. Is anyone as hungry as I am?” At that moment the huddle just broke out in laughter, guys relaxed and went on to make a big important stop to force the other team to punt.

These are just a few of the funny and personal moments that were shared with our fans. Tomorrow we will dock in Matzatlan where we have a fun excursion planned. So, until then…..Later, gator.
