Rotterdam Crew Visits the Rock of Gibraltar

The Rotterdam is on a 17-day round-trip cruise from Rotterdam to the western Mediterranean. One of our first ports of call was the Rock of Gibraltar, I managed a whistle-stop photo tour of the Rock, calling at the Trafalgar graveyard, this is the spot where sailors who died of wounds received during the Battle of Trafalgar and later passed away in Gibraltar have been laid to rest. This is a very tranquil place that is only disturbed by the occasional visit of one of the Rocks most famous residents, the Barbary Apes. I also managed a few shots of the memorial to American servicemen who were stationed in Gibraltar and also the Moorish Castle which overlooks the harbor. The Rock is steeped in history and well worth a visit.

Jonathan Bailey is Rotterdam’s safety, environmental and health officer.
