iPhone iBlog: Exploring Etruscan Tombs in Italy

Special thanks to Jerrol Golden, Holland America Line’s public relations manager, for sharing these iPhone photos from her recent excursion in Livorno, Italy, during her Nieuw Amsterdam cruise.

This is the first shore excursion I have participated on where the motor coach driver has an espresso machine conveniently located next to his seat. Only in Italy!

In Italy

Etruscans ruled from the 4th to 6th Century BC. One hour from Livorno, we were able to explore remnants and artifacts from this sophisticated culture. The tombs were built for the aristocrats and there are many detailed frescoes painted on the interior of each tomb, depicting a detailed scene.

The stairs leading down to one of the tombs.

The burial chambers are easy to find. There are at least ten at this site.

Holland America Line offers more than 4,000 shore excursions in destinations throughout the world. Recently been on a Holland America Line tour?
