iPhone iBlog: Discovering Italy

Special thanks to Jerrol Golden, Holland America Line’s public relations manager, for sharing these iPhone photos from her recent Discover Cinque Terre excursion in Italy, during her Nieuw Amsterdam cruise.

How cool is this trip with all of the languages! Spanish in Barcelona followed by French in Monte Carlo and now waking up to Italian in Italy – all in three days! What’s not to like in the Mediterranean!? Today I walked the trail from Corniglia to Vernazza. It’s a two-hour walk on a rocky but well-used trail complete with lots of sun, beautiful views and a lovely beach at the end. Cinque Terre is an area I’ve wanted to explore for years so I was very excited to be there. The excursion was really nice and included a motorcoach, a walk along the shoreline and scenic train ride. Fantastico!

In Carrara, Italy, the mountains in the background appear to be white. That is all marble  – white Carrara marble. It is said the best marble cutters in Italy work at the fabricators. In the bottom photo you can see the huge chunks of marble that will be cut into slabs and exported.
