A Festive Embarkation for Grand Asia Voyage Mariners

Although Seattle’s “liquid sunshine” was out in full force on Monday September 26th, Seattle’s pier #91 was decorated beautifully for the m.s. Amsterdam’s embarkation of the 2011 Grand Asia Voyage. Guests arrived at the Smith Cove pier to the sight of dozens of Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling, a nine-foot statue of Neptune flanked by exotic flowers from around the Pacific rim to welcome them, oversized passport stamps of the ports they will visit and flags of each and every country they will travel to. It was the perfect send off for our excited Mariners on this exotic 70-day voyage. — Gerald Bernhoft, HAL Director of Mariner Society
