Rotterdam’s Indonesian Independence Day Celebration

Special thanks to Franciskus Manalu for this article and photos from Rotterdam’s recent Indonesian Independence Day celebration.

August 17, 2011, in Warnemunde, Germany, was a big day for Indonesian crew members on board ms Rotterdam. At 10 a.m., the flag-raising ceremony was attended by most of the crew members from each department, officers and the ship’s staff. After the ceremony several games were held on the pier that included tug of war, bakiak, and sack-racing. It was very fun and the teams tried to do their best to win.

The winner will be announced during the Independence Day party on September 2. The gala dinner in the crew mess started at 4:00 p.m. and the final event of the day took place at 6:00 p.m. Some officers were serving crew members in the room full of red and white, the two colors that symbolizes the Indonesian flag. The room was decorated by the dining room staff and some crew members from other departments also helped. We would like to thank everyone for their support and contributions during the ceremony and events.
