Nieuw Amsterdam Crew Visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa

On Nieuw Amsterdam’s last call at Livorno, Italy, for 2011, nearly 50 crew members got the chance to take a tour to one of the world’s miracles; the Leaning Tower of Pisa. A 45-minute bus ride and a short walk led us to the tower, as well as a beautiful cathedral. The crew had the opportunity to take lots of pictures and check out all the latest souvenirs. Everybody had a great time and we all discovered some new photo poses with, against and around the Leaning Tower of Pisa!

I’ve only been on one cruise thus far (have 3 more booked) and my first cruise was on the ms Westerdam with Holland America and it was simply amazing. The staff on the cruise ship simply worked extremely hard. Every time I blinked, my cabin was being cleaned. They were like little cabin ninja’s, they see you leave and they go into action, yet you never even see them doing it.

I was also extremely impressed that my cabin steward knew my name before I ever boarded my cruise. He simply saw which cabin I walked into, came over and said “Mr. Matney, I’m so pleased you have made it, I am your cabin steward and if you need anything I will be here to assist you” (course there was a small accent, and he said much more) – I WAS IMPRESSED that he even knew my name.

I say all this so I can finally get to my point. I am so glad that Holland America provides excursions like this for the crew. They work so hard and they truly go so far above and beyond the call of duty. As a result of my experience on My first cruise, which was with Holland, I have not even tried to look for other cruise line options. I come back to Holland and book my next three cruises without even thinking of checking with other cruise lines. Why? Its because of the crew. They made my vacation the best I have had in my 42 years alive. They deserve excursions like this. Way to Go Holland America.
