iPhone iBlog: In France and Monaco

Special thanks to Jerrol Golden, Holland America Line’s public relations manager, for sharing these iPhone photos from her recent visit to the French town of Menton and Monte Carlo, Monaco, during her Nieuw Amsterdam cruise.

I recently had the opportunity to taste these deliciously sweet and sticky treats called Kouinettes from Menton, France, a 16-minute train ride from Monte Carlo. Numerous flavors are available including pistachio, cherry, almond, coconut and chocolate. I enjoyed the cherry version. It was wonderful! The level of sweetness reminds me of baklava but enhanced with butter. Good thing I can’t find this back home. They were seriously yummy.

The small city of Menton is also home to the Jean Cocteau Museum which was unfortunately closed because it is being remodeled. Rocky beaches dot the coastline and as you can see from the photo, the locals and tourists love the beaches here.

What they say about mega-yachts in Monte Carlo is all true. Contemporary, classic and Darth Vadar-like. They were all rather impressive but certainly not as spacious as the lovely Nieuw Amsterdam!
