Eurodam Called at Rotterdam Today

Maritime historian and regular Holland America Line cruiser Bert Lamers sent us this post about Eurodam’s arrival at Rotterdam this morning, along with some nice photos.

Rotterdam, The Netherlands, May 11, 2009.

On her way to Copenhagen, the Eurodam visited today her home port of Rotterdam. Early in the morning at 06.50 hours, the cruise liner passed residential tower Poseidon (just 800 meters from the cruise terminal) where I live with my wife, Carla.

By tradition, I welcomed the ship with flags from my balcony on the 17th floor. When a ship of Holland America Line visits Rotterdam I hang out the five flags which the company used during its 136 years of existence.

Eurodam left Fort Lauderdale April 25, and after calls at Ponta Delgada, Lisbon, Bilbao, Le Havre, Harwich and Rotterdam she will arrive at Copenhagen May 13. From the Danish capital the cruise liner will exercise a series of 10-day cruises to the Baltic and the Norwegian Fjords.

Last year, on July 1, the Eurodam was christened by Queen Beatrix in Rotterdam.
