It’s clear that the Caribbean is adorned with some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. In fact, you can see most of them as the ships sail past the powdery shores. But what about the beaches that you don’t see when you’re approaching a port? The ones that aren’t a walk away from the pier or well known … here are some of the Caribbean’s most gorgeous hidden and lesser-known beaches that can be visited on an exciting Holland America Line shore excursion.

On the Golden Eagle Catamaran tour at Phillipsburg, St. Maarten, guests sail on the Golden Eagle catamaran to a beautiful sandy beach on the calm side of St Maarten. The Golden Eagle will anchor off a fabulous white-sand beach. Guests can go ashore and explore the island, sunbathe on the beach or take a dip in the crystal-clear waters.

At Grand Turk, known for it’s beautiful beaches, guests on the Gibbs Cay Stingray Encounter & Beach tour enjoy a thrilling encounter with the majestic stingrays at pristine, uninhabited Gibbs Cay. There’s time to swim out to the coral reef and get up-close-and-personal with a myriad of colorful fish and to explore the picturesque area. A highlight is the opportunity to swim out from the beach with the stingrays and watch as these graceful creatures approach the small bay one by one.

On the Pigeon Island Countryside, Hike & Swim tour at Castries, St. Lucia, guests journey to Pigeon Island National Landmark, a 40-acre island joined to the mainland by a causeway. This tranquil area features well-kept paths ideal for a stroll and great views of Rodney Bay. After sipping on a rum punch or fruit juice at Jambe de Bois beach, guests can relax on a beach chair and swim in the clear waters of the Caribbean Sea before heading back to the ship.

“Mamafox” said about the tour: I enjoyed this excursion. The guide was knowledgeable and courteous, the bus comfortable … The beach was wonderful, the bar decorated with furniture made of old wood and driftwood, very interesting. A colorful small boat came close to shore to sell fruit.

If you want to simply relax and soak up the sun, the Beach Escape tour at St. Johns, Antigua, is ideal. Enjoy a mile of soft, white sand bordered by coconut palms, sea grape trees and inviting aquamarine water of the secluded Dickenson Bay Beach. Guests can sit back in a lounge chair in a specially designated area of the beach and enjoy three-and-a-half hours of downtime to take a stroll along the beach and take a swim in the Caribbean Sea.

Has all the amenities you could want … Just outside the lagoon, the water is deep and you can snorkel the reefs there. Lovely shade trees, nice bar and restaurant right on the beach and even a shop.
