Noordam Crew Explore the Deep Sea

On Feb. 26, a few crew members gathered at the port of Philipsburg in St. Maarten for a private dive excursion. Noordam’s 3rd Officer Wouter Koolhaas shared this great story with us.

Deep-sea diving in Philipsburg, St.Maarten.

On our first dive we received a detailed briefing of the dive site and procedures. The moment we jumped into the comfortable 28°C water, the dive was set to become a great adventure. We were divided into two groups, each with a personal instructor. Once we all reached the bottom, the real adventure began.

While swimming around the reef, we spotted lots of marine life, including antenna lobsters, murenes, trunk fish, trumpet fish and many more.

Back on the boat, we exchanged our wild sea stories and prepared quickly for the next dive.

For our second dive, we were dropped above a different reef called the Maze. Why this reef was called the ‘Maze’ was clear to us all within minutes.

There were lots of caves, cracks and all in one — a spectacular view. It is easy to get lost in the Maze, but thanks to our guides, we all had a great experience and the photos are proof. We had to abort the second dive due to lack of time as ms Noordam was scheduled to leave port at 4:00 p.m.

All in all, everyone enjoyed themselves and we are looking forward for another jump in such a great surrounding!
