Developed in partnership with FOOD & WINE magazine, Holland America Line guests can now choose from nearly 100 thoughtfully crafted, culinary-themed tours that feature hands-on cooking classes with top local chefs, culinary walking explorations, winery and distillery visits, sampling authentic street food and more.
Spicing Up The Caribbean
Guests cruising to the Caribbean can choose from 22 new FOOD & WINE excursions that highlight the best of the region’s flavors — from locally produced coffee and rum to freshly caught seafood. The FOOD & WINE shore excursions are offered in Amber Cove, Dominican Republic; Basseterre, St. Kitts; Bridgetown, Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas; Fort de France, Martinique; Georgetown, Grand Cayman; Kralendijk, Bonaire; Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Oranjestad, Aruba; Phillipsburg, St. Maarten; Roseau, Dominica; San Juan, Puerto Rico; St. Johns, Antigua; Saint Georges; Grenada Willemstad, Curaçao; Nassau, Bahamas; and Key West, Florida.
Example Caribbean FOOD & WINE shore excursions include the “Martinique Cooking Class & Rum Distillery” where guests visit to the largest distillery in the French West Indies and then participate in a hands-on cooking class; “Cooking with the Caribbean Spice Girl” in Willemstad featuring Chef Helmi Smeulders who shows guests how to take Caribbean cuisine up a notch; and Roseau’s “Keepin’ it Real Fishing Tour” where guests meet local fishermen, land a catch and have it cooked to perfection.
Mexico Tours Tout Local Favorites
Four new FOOD & WINE shore excursions are available on Mexico cruises. From touring a tequileria to enjoying a fresh, farm-to-table meal, these experiences explore the very best of Mexico’s culinary offerings.
The tours are offered in Cabo San Lucas, Cozumel and Ensenada. Foodies and music lovers, alike, will delight in Cabo San Lucas’ “Discover Todo Santos.” The small oasis village sits peacefully next to the Pacific Ocean, and the highlight of the tour is lunch at the famed Hotel California that inspired the Eagles hit song in 1969. During the “Seaside Chocolate Workshop & Wine Pairing” shore excursion in Cozumel, guests grind the ingredients to make their own bar of chocolate then sample the perfect wine and chocolate pairing.
Discover the Flavors of Central America
Cruisers setting sail for Central America will find four new FOOD & WINE excursions to choose from in Banana Coast, Honduras; Fuerte Amador, Panama; and Puntarenas (Puerto Caldera), Costa Rica. The tours allow guests to meet the natives, and get an authentic taste of the region’s indigenous cuisine. Coffee connoisseurs will want to indulge in Costa Rica’s “Countryside & Coffee Experience” that features a scenic ride and immersive experience at Espiritu Santo Coffee Plantation. At Banana Coast, “A Taste of Trujillo” includes an introduction to natives who share recipes passed down through generations.
