Eurodam Sublime!

We received this glowing report of Merle Minda’s recent cruise aboard Eurodam. Thanks for taking the time to send this in to the blog.

We just returned from seven perfect days in the Caribbean on the glorious Eurodam, the largest of the many Holland America ships we have sailed.

Picture this – perfect sunny days and an endless ocean framing your voyage. On board, lots of good-looking space, unending things to do, truly wonderful food and a sense of gracious living. Even though the ship holds 2,000-plus passengers, it doesn’t feel crowded. I particularly loved the outdoor sea view pool, the signature Dutch antiques and paintings throughout the ship and our divinely comfortable cabin. Service is tops – no sooner would we leave our stateroom than our energetic steward would be in there refreshing towels and emptying wastebaskets.

The food was the best of all our Holland America travels. The Pinnacle restaurant was absolutely first-rate, and the new Asian-fusion Tamarind was extraordinary – marvelous and delicious choices and a stunning environment. Even the dining room food was terrific – we loved having a gracious breakfast and lunch there during the day in particular. The buffet-style Lido restaurant was good too – many different food stations – Italian, Asian, pizza, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and so on – all fresh and attractively served.

The stops were fun – although we have been to these parts of the Caribbean before. In Grand Turk we wandered (the tiny museum on the main street is charming) and drank a margarita at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville; in San Juan we strolled right off the ship into Old San Juan and in St. Thomas, we shopped. Other passengers were kayaking, water and jet skiing, zip-lining through the El Junque Rain Forest in Puerto Rico, catamaran sailing, riding horses on the beach and all sorts of other dandy beach and water-related junkets.

We were into walking – around the decks every day (3 times around is a mile on the Eurodam), or reading, or swimming, or into the afore-mentioned eating – all of which the Eurodam delivered with skill and panache.

We would do it again – loved every minute!
