This week at Flam, Norway, the crew went on a very special shore excursion. It’s called the Flam Fjord Safari. I had arranged this as a special crew-only experience. The tour consists of an hour-and-a-half journey in what’s called a RIB, or Rigid Inflatable Boat. The boat is large enough to fit 20, luckily we only had 13, so there was some extra space for us. The boat goes quite fast and half of the experience was just enjoying the ride!
Being that the boat goes so fast and it very close to the very cold water special gear must be worn. Once we got to the dock we were handed special suits to wear and told to pick out hats and goggles. We all laughed at first but the first time it rained while we were traveling at 45 knots we were thankful for the goggles and gear!
The tour took us deep into the local fjords looking for wildlife.
Along the way we passed the town of Undredal. This small village in a valley has a population of only 80 people. They have 500 friends, though — 500 goats, that is. The village also boasts the oldest stave church in Scandinavia built in the 1100’s.
Unfortunately the only wildlife we saw were goats idling on the side of the fjord, but it was still a great ride! We had a wonderful opportunity to explore some of the most beautiful parts of Norway in a unique way.
See you out there!
