Catherine’s Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, is one of two of the most lavish palaces there. Constructed by order of Empress Catharina from 1717 to 1756 to “compete” with Peterhof, it does compete very well. It is known for it’s lavish decorations and Amber Chamber.
