‘One of the best in world’
By JONATHAN MALLINSON
Cruise addicts Noel and Pat Bell believe the port of Burnie is one of the best in the world and the reputation is spreading fast.
The Melbourne husband and wife duo docked in Burnie aboard the Volendam yesterday, the second last stop before the cruise up to Sydney.
It was the pair’s third time to Burnie and every time they cruise, coming to Burnie is a must. Mr Bell, a professional filmmaker, said Burnie was a port everyone on board the ship loved coming to.
“We are given a rundown of what to expect in Burnie when we dock and are told to remember it’s a working port,” Mr Bell said. “But there is nowhere I know of where the mayor is there to greet you all as you walk off the boat and is willing to talk to everyone – the Americans love it. And the Makers Workshop is a brilliant facility, everyone wishes they had something like it in their home town.”
Mr. and Mrs. Bell are on a month-long cruise, which will now take them to Hong Kong and around Asia from Sydney. He said the people of Burnie were probably the nicest in the world and would go out of their way to help you.
As a professional filmmaker, Mr. Bell films his cruise trips and turns them into high-definition video to be posted on YouTube. Many of them have been picked up by cruise forums and Burnie is set to feature in his next lot.
“I spent most of the day yesterday filming around Burnie, we don’t do many of the tours, we like to just walk around on our own and explore,” Mr Bell said.
