Postcards from Sydney

I’ve been to many places in the world, but Sydney always takes my breath away. During an amazing overnight in Sydney last month guests and crew had the opportunity of enjoying the sunset by the Sydney Opera House. Even if you don’t like opera and think that the Opera House is just a “pretty building,” I dare you not to remember a moment like that for the rest of your life.

As the ms Volendam was docked right across from Sydney’s most famous landmark for two days, guests could come and go as they pleased and enjoy all Sydney has to offer. The possibilities were many: a peaceful walk on Sydney Harbor, climbing the Sydney Bridge (for the more adventuresome), a swim at Bondi Beach — the world-famous surfing beach — pub hopping at The Rocks, shopping, getting close to koalas and kangaroos, and visiting the Blue Mountains.

I chose to enjoy a fantastic performance of “The Magic Flute” followed by dinner and drinks at the Opera House Bar. Many of you might think, “You just paid for the view.” Well I have to say, “And what a view!” While I was enjoying my delicious food and the beautiful music from the band, I had the Opera House on my left and the beautiful ms Volendam, my “home away from home,” on my right just across the harbor. I couldn’t ask for anything better …
