This voyage has been a very special one for ms Zaandam. Not only are we wrapping up an amazing and memorable Asia season, but we are also celebrating our 500th voyage!
Crew activities were planned to show gratitude to the crew for a job well done, and also to celebrate this milestone for the vessel. We started with an evening barbeque, where everyone enjoyed a nice meal together on the bow as the sun set over Laem Chabang, Thailand. Each crew member received a special edition “Voyage 500” t-shirt which was designed by previous human resources manager, Anthony, and human resources clerk, Fikar.
As the Zaandam sailed from Phu My, Vietnam, we held an a very festive Asian-themed costume party in the Crow’s Nest. Our soiree was complete with an all-crew raffle, costume contest and performances by our very own Gen and HAL Cats. Party favors included an authentic Vietnamese leaf hat along with a nice pair of chopsticks. The ladies put the sticks in their hair as accessories, while the guys wore their hats around proudly all night.
Three activities in three different countries wrapped up our celebration. The result is a reflection on the achievements we have had so far and an eye on the next horizon. Who knows what the future will bring from Zaandam but here’s to our next 500 voyages!
Brandi E. Johnson is Zaandam’s human resources manager.
