On Sunday Oct. 1, the port of San Diego welcomed both Amsterdam and guests for the departure of the 80-day 2017 Grand Asia and Pacific Voyage. Although skies were a bit cloudy, spirits were bright for both our crew and guests getting ready to sail later that evening.
For each Grand Voyage departure, Holland America Line festively decorates the ship terminal, and for the Grand Asia and Pacific Voyage guests were welcomed with large Chinese lanterns hanging from the ceiling, tropical floral arrangements at each check-in desk, nautical flags and a statue of Neptune at the entrance of the terminal. The ship also gets a special logo painted on the front for the duration of the journey.
The first to board the ship were the elite President’s Club Mariners. All have sailed on Holland America Line for a minimum of 1,400 sea days! Captain Fred Eversen, Hotel Director Henk Mensink, Director Mariner Society Gerald Bernhoft and Cruise Director Hamish Davis personally welcomed guests onboard Amsterdam.
The 80-day Grand Asia Voyage will completely circle the Pacific Rim before returning to San Diego Dec. 20, 2017. Bon Voyage to Amsterdam, her guests and crew! We look forward to following your adventures!
Don’t worry, if you missed the boat this year, check out the 2018 Grand Asia and Pacific Voyage that departs Sept. 30, 2018.
