Visiting Denali on a CruiseTour

Holland America Line’s Director of Public Relations Erik Elvejord is on a CruiseTour that visits Denali National Park in Alaska and sent us these photos.

We’re on a tour into Denali National Park and we had a fantastic day. We saw four of the five sought-after animals — bear, moose, caribou and dall sheep — in the park. As a bonus, the “Mountain” wasn’t under cloud cover so we had great views of Mt. McKinley. In fact, we counted 22 grizzly bears that day. Some animals were near the bus and some off at a distance but it worth every second. A great day. – Erik Elvejord, HAL Director of Public Relations

Great pics We are going Aug 20 for a cruise/tour. Hope to see the animals. And the beautiful country.
Anyone know how the food is on the tour part?

Hi Joann, Erik will be back in the office tomorrow, and I’ll be sure to have him provide details on the food during his tour! Be sure to send photos from your upcoming trip when you return!

From Erik: Food depends a bit on where you eat. If you do the meal package it’s at the Westmark Hotels and on the train. The hotels will vary a bit but I thought that the Tok property had great food, and Skagway has a good bar called Bonanaza that serves fish and chips, salmon, burgers, shrimp, Asian fusion, etc. In Denali, guests eat locally. It depends on tastes but you can eat fancier or go for pizza and/or fish and chips. There’s lots of reindeer sausage and things everywhere! If you don’t do a meal package, the Tour Concierge passes out a dining list to everyone with the types of restaurants on them. He or she has probably eaten at many of them, too, and can provide good advice. For worry-free, though, the dining meal plan is the best option.
