Tuesday at 2:49 p.m. as we were leaving Margerie Glacier in Glacier Bay National Park, we passed the Westerdam of Holland America Line on our port side as it was headed in to Margerie Glacier. It was a serene scene, to be sure. Total silence.
Going back to ship on the Alaska Railroad on Sunday after a short tour of Anchorage.
As we entered the waters of Glacier Bay early in the morning, about 7 a.m. a small 20-foot boat pulled beside the ship and a group of three National Park rangers jumped aboard the Statendam. While en route from Ketchikan to Victoria, B.C., we experienced what I call “the perfect storm” — clear skies, no rain and tons of lightning strikes; one after the other, continuing for hours.
