iPad iBlog: Sitka

The Captain of our Sea Otter and Wildlife Quest boat, the St. Eugene, called today in Sitka, “epically magical!!” and he was right. We saw many, many animals and all the gorgeous color that Sitka hides away for the sun to unlock. More photos to come from a “real camera” once the downloads and photo sorting begins. I better head for a Digital Worksop class, poste haste!

Sitka - Just after sunrise. The day held great promise this morning and now we know how lucky we really were and how happy cruisers of all ages can be. Such gorgeous weather we may want to move here!

Waving a fond farewell to The Volcano - aka Mt Edgecumbe, named by Captain James Cook on his second voyage of discovery in 1778 (3,201 feet; 976 m.) There was actually quite a bit of red on it cascading down from the top and our youngest daughter wanted to know if it was hot lava.

Adieu, hope to be back soon! Thanks to the HAL Shore Excursion team and Allen Marine Tours for a memorable day.

Mary Schimmelman, Holland America Line’s senior manager of social media, is on vacation aboard Westerdam in Alaska and is sending in photos with her iPad.
