Glacier Lake Kayak & White Pass Rail Experience in Skagway

Rachel Moodie recently sailed on Volendam and sent in some great posts. Enjoy this one about her kayak adventure in Skagway.

Even on vacation my husband and I don’t sit still for very long, we like to get up and go! So when we researched shore excursions we honed in on the adventurous trips with the icons that have the most people walking (those black and white sketches of stick figures). One of our most active excursions was Glacier Lake Kayak & White Pass Rail Experience in Skagway. We found that the tour description was spot on. We got some solid time in on the water and took in breathtaking views. Tip: Be ready for a little exercise and getting a tad bit wet … the kayaks are sturdy but you’re still on the water and when paddling you will get some spots on you. Also, the tour guides know the area well so be sure to take advantage of your time with them and ask them any question that comes to mind (whether it’s the type of trees you’re looking at, where to shop when you get back into town, etc.)

Kayaking on Lake Bernard, technically Canada not Alaska. The tour guides had the kayaks ready to go when we arrived, which meant we didn’t have to drag them to the water and we could spend even more time paddling.

View from my spot in the kayak.

Sunshine and blue skies.

Since we’re from Seattle, it was warm enough for Brad to paddle in a short sleeve t-shirt!
