They sometimes say “boys and their toys” — as the boys get older, the toys become more expensive. Well, here on the ms Zuiderdam we do it differently — it was girls and boys with toys, and these toys were definitely expensive.
It was time for the crew of the ms Zuiderdam to head off for an adventure, leave the work behind and just go back to nature. The origin of mankind surrounded by trees, water, wildlife (they might have been scared off, by the way) and the sounds of engines running. Crew Purser Darryl and Shore Excursion Manager Francisco organized a crew Adventure Kart Tour in Ketchikan, Alaska. The excursion started on the pier where there was a pick-up arranged by the tour operator.
When everybody was squeezed in, the van drove off. First the highway, which was an easy run, but as soon the van got off the road it was a warm-up for the adventure karts on a bumpy unpaved road in the middle of nowhere.
After a short trip the van arrived at the starting point for the off-road track. Here there was some playtime before it was time to get down to the real business — a short safety instruction and time to put on the “adventure kart–proof uniforms” of helmets, jackets and pants.
The trip on the karts was about 45 minutes to an hour. Halfway through the trip there was time for a swim and a cool down under the waterfall if you really wanted to, a driver change and then the trip back.
Overall it was an awesome tour and really worth doing again, possibly at the beginning of the season when the karts will go faster and you can almost feel as if you are a Formula-1 driver off-road.
See you out and about!
