Special thanks to Westerdam’s Manager of Onboard Marketing Astrid van de Ven for this post.
On one of our many days at sea, while heading back to San Diego, we organized an art auction to benefit Westerdam’s crew fund. The pieces of art that were auctioned off by our professional Park West Auctioneers were created by our very own guests and five members of our crew. The pieces varied from watercolor, to sketches and even some still-life. It was unbelievable to see how much talent we have on board. Both young and elderly guests participated, with the youngest being a four-year-old and the eldest being close to 100 years old.
A special guest appearance was made by a former employee of Warner Brothers who is the last living artist who actually used to draw the cartoons instead of using modern technology. In just an hour and a half he produced multiple drawings of familiar characters that we all know from TV. It was a creative day, with lots of fun and a fantastic end result. We are proud to say that we raised $1,526! I am sure the ship will be able to reward the team for their hard work all year-round and spend the money on a good cause. — Astrid van de Ven
