Having met some of Tunisia’s camels at the pier, we headed out for the tour bus to join our half day tour to Sidi Bou Said and Carthage, and to explore this North African Country in the safe and knowledgeable hands of our tour guide.

Sidi Bou Said is an artist town which reminded many of us of the towns in Santorini and Mykonos, with its white houses and the blue shutters. After a quick walk from the bus parking to the town, everybody enjoyed some free time for shopping or a taste of the famous mint tea in the relaxed atmosphere of this picturesque place.

It is a busy resort town with many little shops and cafes which is bustling with tourists and locals. We find a variety of souvenirs and local handicrafts like ceramics, lamps and mosaics offered in the shops. The town shows a different side of Tunisia than most of us expected.

After all of us enjoyed our own explorations of Sidi Bou Said, the tour continued to the ruins of the ancient city Carthage, well known for its powerful position during the Roman Empire as well as for being the starting point for Hannibal’s famous journey. The visit to the ruins included a guided visit of the Roman Baths, the amphitheatre and other parts of the ruins.

After the guided visit of the ruins and a short drive, we arrived safely back at the ship with many scenic pictures and a whole lot of new, positive impressions of Tunisia. We experienced some of the country’s history as well as a glimpse into today’s resort area of Sidi Bou Said and spent a relaxed half day in Tunisia.
