Rotterdam Wins Carnival Corp’s 100th Ship Cake Contest
The competition was stiff but congratulations go to our own Rotterdam for winning the recent cake competition held among all 10 of the Carnival Corp. brands! Every ship was asked to design and make a cake in honor of welcoming Carnival Magic as the 100th ship in the Carnival Corp. family. The only requirement was that it had to incorporate the 100th Ship logo. All of our ships did an amazing job, and we’re thrilled that one of our cakes won!
Rotterdam was deemed the winner for their elaborate series of 10 cruise ship-shaped cakes, each representing a different Carnival Corp. brand, along with a three-tiered cake that paid homage to Holland America Line’s role in the 100th ship achievement. For their efforts, the Rotterdam team earned the grand prize of $10,000 to be used for a fun-filled crew celebration.
Here’s a note from the ship regarding their creation:
While in port in Manta, Ecuador, the culinary team of Holland America’s ms Rotterdam turned its retreat pool into a festive ocean celebrating Carnival Corp. All cruise lines were represented by delicious “Carnival Corp. mini cruise ship” cakes, all made by pastry chef Alex Latayan and his team. The cakes were surrounded by inflatable Holland America Line ships floating in the pool. In addition to the 15 colorful ship replicas, Culinary Operations Manager Ricardo Pijpers and his team created an amazing 3-tier logo cake to celebrate this milestone in the history of Carnival Corp. After two weeks of eager preparation and hard work the team presented their creation to the guests and proudly lined up to welcome the newest vessel … Carnival Magic.
