Postcards from the Caribbean

Postcards from the Caribbean

Winter is in full swing and several cities are buried in snow and ice. But if it’s the Caribbean‘s balmy breezes, powdery beaches and the sounds of a steel drum band are all you dream of, there’s a spot on the beach waiting for you to come along, relax and sink your toes into the sand.

Several Holland America Line ships currently are plying the azure waters of the Caribbean on a variety of itineraries, so pack your bags and join us. Guest Gary Frink sailed on an 11-day Collectors’ Voyage, and he sent in some photos taken during his cruise.

We are doing what the cruise biz denotes as “back-to-backs,” two or more consecutive separate cruises on the same ship, cobbled into one onboard waterborn sojourn. In our case, a four-day cruise out of Fort Lauderdale that churned to Key West, FL; Nassau, Bahamas; the Holland America-owned Half Moon Cay, for a beach frolic; and back to Fort Lauderdale. Our follow-on is a seven day affair that again stops at Key West and Half Moon Cay; it adds Ocho Rios, Jamaica and Georgetown, Cayman Islands. — Gary

Gary wasn’t the only one who sailed on a Caribbean voyage recently. Here are some more beautiful photos that capture the ambiance and flavor of the islands.

Puerto Rico is one of my favorite islands not only because there is are variety of activities but because the streets of Old San Juan are a never-ending source of snapshots of daily life. The man in this photo is waiting for the barbeque to start, obviously. The lady in the window is working so hard on her curtain, she never looked up. — Future Cruise Consultant Joanne Gardner

Guest Carlette had a great day at Half Moon Cay and sent us two of her favorite shots:

The weather at Half Moon Cay was just great, no rain and the sun came and went. There was a nice breeze and a good barbeque. Everyone enjoyed the beach and the fun of the island. I hope everyone has a chance to visit Holland America Line’s private island, so put it on your destination list. — Komang Sumartha, Maasdam’s dining room manager
