Oosterdam Hosts Special ‘On Deck for the Cure’ Celebration

Special thanks to Kelsey Differding, Holland America Line’s corporate giving coordinator, for submitting this post and photos from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Puget Sound Affiliate luncheon on board Oosterdam.

For the second year in a row, the Oosterdam hosted the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Puget Sound Affiliate’s 18th Annual Breast Cancer Survivor Celebration. On Sunday, Sept. 11, the ship welcomed aboard an inspiring group of 400 breast cancer survivors. The Oosterdam crew members did an outstanding job turning the ship into a sea of pink! Everyone was surprised by the variety of decorations including a balloon arch and a breast cancer ribbon ice sculpture at the entrance to the Vista Dining Room. Throughout the lunch, raffle tickets were sold and one lucky woman was the winner of the grand prize, a seven-day Holland America Line cruise.

Komen raised $7,000 in raffle ticket sales. Another memorable moment involved the Oosterdam crew lining up from the entrance of the ship all the way to the Vista Dining Room in their ‘On Deck for the Cure’ T-shirts applauding the survivors as they made their way to lunch. After finishing their four-course meals, guests moved to the Vista Show Lounge where they enjoyed an assortment of dance moves in the Broadway Review Show Ballroom Blitz.
