Nieuw Amsterdam Honored with Plaque Ceremony in St. Croix

In Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, Jan. 25, we had the honor of having high St. Croix officials visit us and present Captain van Zaane with a plaque from the island. We normally don’t have St. Croix in our itinerary, however, since our charterer Legendary Rhythm & Blues had selected the island for their yearly Blues Festival, the Nieuw Amsterdam was honored to make our inaugural call to Frederiksted. Since Roger Naber (Blues Cruise Director) caused the Nieuw Amsterdam to sail to St. Croix, we invited him to the plaque ceremony and actually presented our own plaque to the Island representatives. Besides the plaque exchange, the Island Blues Festival was an enormous success. Live bands played all over town, locals had set-up shop, shops stayed open late and restaurants were popular. It was a beautiful and successful day.
