The incredible Alaska landscape is one of the few places in the world that is best seen by combining a cruise with an overland adventure, and Holland America Line’s signature Land+Sea Journeys offer guests more ways to see this remote and off-the-beaten path part of the world. The 13 Land+Sea Journeys options range from 10 to 20 days and are in two distinct series with cruise-first or land-first choices: Yukon and Denali Land+Sea Journeys and Denali Land+Sea Journeys.
New highlights for the 2016 season include a maiden visit to Talkeetna, Alaska, on the Double Denali and Alyeska Journey, allowing more time to view the majestic Denali mountain; ms Nieuw Amsterdam moves to the Inside Passage itinerary and ms Noordam moves to the Glacier Discovery itinerary, making more verandah and suite staterooms available for Land+Sea Journeys guests; and the Base Camp complex at the company’s McKinley Chalet Resort near the entrance to Denali National Park will be ready to welcome visitors, serving as a new gathering area to relax, shop, dine and enjoy music and entertainment.
Stays at Alyeska Resort, top, and McKinley Chalet Resort enhance the Land+Sea Journeys.
Each Land+Sea Journey combines a three- to seven-night Holland America Line cruise with a one-, two- or three-night stay at Denali National Park. Guests are immersed in Alaska history and culture with visits to places such as Dawson City, Yukon, in the heart of gold rush country; charming Seward, Alaska; the five-star Alyeska Resort; pristine Kluane and Tombstone parks; colorful Skagway, Alaska; and the historic narrow gauge White Pass and Yukon Route railroad.
Holland America Line’s McKinley Chalet, a magnificent 68-acre hotel property on the Nenana River, offers Land+Sea Journeys guests their own elegant wilderness retreat featuring seamless hospitality and sustainable Alaskan cuisine. The hotel serves as the ideal base for all adventures at Denali National Park such as flightseeing, ATV adventures, hiking trails, river rafting and more.
The new Base Camp complex at McKinley Chalet Resort will be ready for the 2016 Alaska cruise season. The largest building will be a grand two-story, 7,800-square-foot restaurant showcasing views of the neighboring mountains. Other attractions include the Gold Nugget Saloon; an amphitheater where guests will enjoy a variety of local shows, ranger talks and demonstrations; cozy fire pits; outdoor seating; three retail shops offering local goods; and an artist-in-residence cabin where Alaska native and local artists will display and discuss their works.
Base Camp will be ready to welcome visitors in 2016.
