Marco’s Moments: Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam Meet in San Juan
For the first time ever both Signature ships were in port together. Yesterday in San Juan, Puerto Rico, both the Eurodam and Nieuw Amsterdam were docked right alongside each other. The Eurodam arrived in port at 1:00pm and the Nieuw Amsterdam at 4:00pm. In the afternoon, Paul Kern, assistant culinary operations manager and myself walked up to the El Morro fortress to see the Nieuw Amsterdam coming into port. It was a beautiful sight to see our sister ship sailing past the fortress and provided great photo opportunities.
Afterwards we walked through the beautiful old town of San Juan back towards the ships. We went in the Sheraton hotel and they were very kind to allow us up on the top floor, so we were able to take some beautiful shots of both Signature ships together. It will probably be a long time before we are in port together again, but it gave many crew members the opportunity to go and have a look at either ship and compare. Both ships left around the same time from San Juan onto the next port on their itinerary.
Marco van Belleghem is Eurodam’s hotel manager.
What beautiful pictures of two beautiful ships in a beautiful location. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely beautiful pictures!! :)
What a treat !!!Thank you !
cool! I can’t wait to “meet” ms eurodam in a few weeks!
What fantastic pics, Marco!
Thanks for posting.
Postcard-perfect pictures ! Thanks for sharing them. Could you possibly tell me what church that is in the last photo if you know, and if it’s in Old San Juan? We were there last month on the Eurodam, and I thought we visited all the churches and cemeteries, but this one doesn’t look familiar. Thanks for your help!
Perfect timing to get those terrific photos.
My two favorite ships side by side! Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing…..
That is really a beautiful and majestic sight, those two ships together.
Oh, how wonderful…waiting to go on the Niew Amsterdam, been on the Eurodam for a 28-day cruise, my very first and it was wonderful…been almost 3 years.
Amazing photo op! It’d be so great to come into port during daylight and afternoon hours rather than being already at the pier upon rising in the morning.
looking forward to sailing on the nieuw amsterdam in march
BELLISSIMO!!! I would love to have seen this in person!!!
Wonderful pictures ! We sailed the Eurodam on its maiden voyage to Grand Turk, San Juan, and St Thomas. These photos bring back such great memories. San Juan was by far my favorite port on that voyage. Hope to sail again someday, until then, thanks for the memories !!
Nice to see these beautifull ships together side by side. Sailed on HAL once and can’t wait to go back again, such a “class act”. On a recent trip to the panama canal one of the hal ships was in a lock right next to our ship and it was thrilling to see it up so close.
I took an unforgetable cruise to Alaska , I will never forget it. I liked it so well, that I took my daughter the next year. These are some beautiful pictures. Thanks, Nellie Mullikin.
Prachtige Foto,s
Did a cruise on each one of them. Beautiful ships. Going on the Westerdam next week.
Beautiful ships in beautiful pictures.
Plus I love the old sailing ship in bottom left of the photograph.
A wonderful picture of old and new.
Simply beautiful photos…..I have ben on 2 Holland Am cruises and had wonderful time on both. To see two Holland America ships in the same port is incredible! So close….usually I see other cruise lines anchored in the area…not two beautiful Holland America vessels…Thanks for sharing this rare event and photos…I’ll be sailing with you again soon. I don’t sail any other cruise line ever! H.A you have spoiled me!
Thank you for sharing the pictures. I was on the Nieu Amsterday twice in the past year. Loved it.
Beautuful ships together – amazing. We were on the Eurodam last year to the Baltic – absolutely fabulous.
Makes me even more excitd by our upcoming trip. Thanks.
We have been on both ships twice and in San Juan. But we have never got this pic, great shot!! Love both of these, almost identical twins. Biggest ship I would ever consider but prefer the Maasdam or Ryndam. Love Holland America for so many reasons; safety, ORDERLINESS, cleanliness, service, food, and especially the staff and crew. Saving up for my next cruise, maybe 2013 Europe.
Fantastic pictures, Marco! What a sight, two great ships together in a wonderful port. We were just on the Eurodam 2 weeks ago – love your ship, your staff’s service, the beautiful itinerary.
Beautiful!! I am booked in March for the 7 day Eastern Carribbean Cruise aboard ms Eurodam and the pictures of these ships together in San Juan have absolutely got me more anxious than ever. This will be the third Holland America ship that I will have had the pleasure to experience. My first was in November 2009 aboard ms Zaandam for our 14 day Hawaiian cruise. In September 2011 we were on ms Amsterdam for a 7 day cruise to Alaska. What a wonderful way to enjoy out vacation time. Looking forward to future bookings with Holland America.
These are great photos. ES on the Erodam in 2011. It’s a wonderful ship. Had a totally enjoyable cruise.
beautiful…ty for sharing…^_^
How nice we have had the pleasure of cruising on both of these beautiful ships.
I was just on the Eurodam Jan 7-14, second time love the ship!!
What a beautiful sight. Makes me feel to go again and add to my sailing days. Thanks for sharing.
Great pic..Beck and I are looking forward to the March 24 th sailing on the Eurodam. We cruised the Inside passage on the Zuiderdam in August..A must for all you cruisers.
I’m heading out on the Eurodam May 21. Can’t wait!!!
In 2007 sailed on the Maasdam we arrived at our latest port I can’t remember which one but somewhere in the Carribean and berthed alongside the Zuiderdam. At the time I thought how large she was compared to our ship and was intrigued by the external lifts. I was sure that I would never step inside one of those. In 2011 we cruised the Caribbean on….yes you guessed it the Zuiderdam and yes I went in the glass lifts many times. It wasn’t until my husband Stewart checked back on our photos that we realised this. It was pure coincidence and quite long odds I think?
Really nice photos cant wait to go on the nieuw amsterdam. We have just booked and it is our very first cruise. We will be on the eighth deck and i was wondering about movement i was told the middle is the best as well any advice for first time cruisers will be greatly appreciated.
Regards, Colette
I would have like to find out What port they sailed to . J H.
Gorgeous photos! Thanks for sharing
Awsome site! Love the Eurodam!!
Beautiful pictures. Sailing on the Eurodam next week!!!
I was on the Eurodam. A real treat to see these ships side by side.
The crews were having a little fun teasing each other on who has the Best ship.
My husband and I have sailed on both ships! We enjoyed a New England/Canadian Fall Colours cruise on the Eurodam, and a 24-day Mediterranean cruise on the Neiuw Amsterdam. Great ships!
I loved the pictures at San Juan of the two Dam ships. I have been on the Eurodam Eastern Caribbean cruise 3 times in the last year. The last time was Nov 26, 2011to 12/03/2011. It is a great cruise. Your pictures are the best I have seen. Great views.
Absolutely gorgeous! The photos are every much as elegant as our time on the Eurodam last week! Thank you!
Wow what magical photo’s think we will just have to another cruise with HAL
Cool pics. Thanks for sharing
Beautiful photo’s… my husband and I were on the Nieuw Amsterdam last year. We are booked on the Eurodam this Spring. Really looking forward to our trip and can’t wait to compare.
Beautiful Pictures ! Thank you for sharing !!
Beautiful HAL ships! What a treat to see these two together. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures of the Eurodam and the Nieuw Amsterdam. We just came back from a trip on the Eurodam and had a wonderful time. We will definitely book another cruise with Holland America. They are the best…
Thanks for the great shots!
Awesome!! The two newest HAL ships!! Thanks for sharing! Will be on the Eurodam in Feb. Can’t wait!
We will aboard the Eurodam and in San Juan Puerto Rico on February 14th, we are so excited, thanks for the wonderful pictures
Great photos of the Nieuw Amsterdam. It’s by far the best ship in the Dam Fleet. Holland America can be proud of her.
Simply stunning.
Mooie foto’s op een mooie locatie. Twee van de mooie schepen van de Hal bij elkaar is mooi vlagvertoon.
Marco- Wonderful photos. Hope to soon take a HAL cruise.
Beautiful pictures, I made the maiden trips on both ships.
Such elegance and grace! You can keep the water slides, glitz and glamour. I love being treated like royalty and all the subtle nicities that HAL is famous for. Can hardly wait until our next cruise to Alaska and/or the Panama Canal./
We”ll be sailing Sat Feb 18 out of Ft.Lauderdale on Nieuw Amsterdam to Eastern Caribbean. Hope to meet other couples on Board.
Brampton, ON Canada
I was in port in San Juan two weeks ago and also visited the Sheraton Hotel after Old San Juan. Unfortunately I was not on the top floor taking pictures, I was in the first floor casino losing money.
I have been on the Oosterdam,Maasdam and the Westerdam and hope to get on these two beautiful ships at some point.
Just earned my third Mariner Star on the Eurodam from which I debarked this morning. Still don’t understand how HAL delivers such an outstanding cruise experience with a crew that works its tail off and ALWAYS smiles. Thanks!
We had the pleasure of being on the Eurodam when it met it’s sister ship in San Juan. It was a gorgeous site and look forward to booking a cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam going out of Venice. The Eurodam was our favorite cruise ever, nothing compares to it.
The ships are beautiful, and I am looking forward to going on the Eurodam in October, to Canada and New England. Great time of year to see the colors as the trees change, in the fall.
