It’s National Travel and Tourism Week: Travel Matters

The U.S. Travel Association’s National Travel and Tourism Week takes place from May 5-11, 2019. It is a week when travel and tourism professionals come together to celebrate the value travel holds for our economy, businesses and personal well-being. To highlight this special occasion, the U.S. Travel Association used each day of the week to highlight the different ways “Travel Matters,” and Holland America Line has followed suit!

Read on below to discover how Travel Matters to Holland America Line.

Travel Matters To Our Economy

Holland America Line contributes to that by bringing cruisers to destinations around the world — both big and small — where our guests and our business help stimulate the local economy.

“Travel matters to our economy — nationwide and in cities from coast to coast. The travel industry delivers $2.5 trillion in economic output annually, creating a $69 billion trade surplus, impacting industries and jobs throughout the entire U.S. economy.”

Travel Matters For New Experiences

That’s what Holland America Line’s shore excursions are all about! Whether uncovering the history of an ancient city or zip-lining in Costa Rica, our tours deeply immerse our guests in local cultures, customs and adventures!

“Traveling remains central to exploring new experiences — from enjoying our national parks to visiting new cities, all of which create lifelong enthusiasts. In fact, 76 percent of employed Americans say a firsthand experience is instrumental in forming impressions of a community.”

Travel Matters To Our Jobs

We’re so incredibly grateful for our hardworking crew members who take pride in delivering exceptional service to our guests.

“The travel industry plays a critical role in creating millions of American jobs across all 50 states and in every congressional district nationwide. As America’s seventh-largest employer, the travel industry directly employs 8.9 million workers.”

Travel Matters To Keeping America Connected

Travel not only keeps America connected, but it connects us to the world. Travel has the ability to traverse oceans and continents, opening our eyes to a shared humanity.

“Staying connected to the world and each other is the foundation of our communities and necessary for growing travel — both domestic and international. Travel is the definable link that transitions from welcoming inbound travelers to explore our commonalities and differences to the — quite literal — airports, roads and bridges that shape our mobility.”

Travel Matters To Health

From the fresh ocean air and lighter fare to our fully equipped fitness center and active tours … cruising makes it easy to focus on your health! Our favorite outdoor workouts include hiking in Acadia National Park & kayaking through the Norwegian Fjords!

After a vacation, employees feel rested and recharged when they return back to the office. Studies show workers who use their time off to travel see a 22 percent jump in happiness with their health compared to those who use their days off at home (61% to 39%). What’s more, vacation can reduce stress, improve heart health and create a stronger connection with loved ones — improving your overall wellbeing.

Travel Matters To Hometown Pride

Seattle

As Seattle’s Hometown Cruise Line, we couldn’t be more proud to represent the city that is the home of our headquarters and a homeport for our Alaska cruises!

When residents take pride in where they live, they become ambassadors by promoting their communities to their loved ones. After all, more than half (54%) of leisure travel is to visit friends and family. And whether it’s cheering on the home team or celebrating what makes your community unique, these experiences benefit both residents and visitors alike.

Travel Matters To Families

Family

A Holland America Line cruise is the perfect multigenerational vacation. With incredible locales, a variety of cuisine and exciting entertainment, a Holland America Line cruise makes for an epic family adventure with something for everyone — no matter the age!

Vacations are critical to families, offering quality time together away from the stress of busy lives. The majority of adults (62%) say their earliest memories were of family vacations taken when they were between ages 5 and 10 which goes to show the lasting impact of vacations.
