First ‘Dancing with the Stars: at Sea’ Theme Cruises Hit Alaska

It’s hard to say what is more exciting, the beginning of the Alaska season or the first “Dancing with the Stars: at Sea” theme cruise of 2014! Luckily we don’t have to choose as they came together onboard Zuiderdam.

The first two of six scheduled “Dancing with the Stars: at Sea” theme cruises set sail from Vancouver June 14 and June 21, 2014, with dance pros Kym Johnson and Tristan MacManus, celebrities Sabrina Bryan and Carson Kressley, and a bevy of professional dancers geared up to samba, tango and foxtrot through the week. The first cruise sailed through the Inside Passage and Glacier Bay and made calls at Tracy Arm, Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan.

Throughout the week the stars mingled with guests, performed on the main stage, taught dance classes and put on a live fashion show. At port they had a chance to relax and enjoy the beauty and culture of Alaska. Some of the team, including Carson and Kym, are very active on social media and they shared their experience with fans along the way.

The first call on the cruise was Skagway, Alaska, where Carson and Kym headed out to see the Days of ’98 Show, a vaudeville-style production that has been a staple of Skagway since 1923. Elsewhere at Skagway dancers Sasha Anndrev, Magda Fialek and Iveta Lukosiute hopped on the White Pass and Yukon Railway to take in the rugged views and took some not-so-rugged selfies along the way.

Other highlights of the week included the “real live lumberjacks” at the Great Alaskan Lumberjack Show at Ketchikan, the peace and beauty of Glacier Bay and locally caught crab at Tracy’s Crab Shack at Juneau.

There are still four “Dancing With the Stars: at Sea” theme cruises left in 2014, including the “Dancing with the Stars: at Sea” Champions Cruise that sets sail Dec. 6, 2014, on ms Westerdam for a 7-day eastern Caribbean cruise. The Champions Cruise will feature professionals and celebrities from “Dancing with the Stars” — including Kym Johnson, Sabrina Bryan, Carson Kressley and Tristan MacManus — along with one winner from each ship in the fleet who will compete for the coveted mirrorball trophy.

While not every cruise is a theme cruise, guests have the opportunity to participate in the “Dancing with the Stars: at Sea” program on every Holland America Line cruise and compete for their chance to advance to the Champions Cruise. Below are a few recent winners from Eurodam, Westerdam, Ryndam and Volendam with their professional partners. Stay tuned to see if any of these ladies will be featured on the Champions Cruise!

This was SO MUCH FUN!! I just returned from the Zuiderdam cruise to Alaska and all I can keep talking about was what a blast this was. My fave dancer Tristan happened to be part of the cast so that was awesome, and it was exciting to interact with them in the dancing workshops & competitions. Thank you so much to Holland-America and the DWTS team for being part of my trip of a lifetime!
