Yesterday we had the perfect day at Half Moon Cay. Beautiful weather, light winds, very small waves.

We decided to drop two anchors in what is called a “running moor” or in Dutch “Vertuid ten anker.” Normally the ship tends to swing behind one anchor and so we use the propellers to keep a steady heading during the day. However this means we have to keep two engines running. Using two anchors enables us to stop all propulsion and thus run on one engine only. This in turn saves a bit of fuel.

Why not use this configuration at all time? Well, the ship settles with the wind and waves straight on the bow using the running moor. So if the waves are too big, this may interfere with the tender service.
