Bert’s Beauty Shots: Alaska’s Gorgeous Glaciers
This is the pinnacle of the trip where you get off the helicopter and hike on the glacier. The view is overwhelming and the fact that you’re standing on ice which is hundreds of feet high, makes you feel tiny. It’s stunning, really. If you decide to go to Alaska, make sure this is one of the things you do. You don’t want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Tip for the camera geeks: if you bring a D-SLR, make sure you also bring a few polarizing filters as well as a UV-filter and a NDG (graduated neutral density). For this photo I used all three screw-on filters at the same time. Not using a filter in this extreme lighting will result in overexposure and thus less contrast.

Thanks, again, Mr van Mackelenbergh, for these photos, which we enjoy immensely, and for the great two weeks just past on the Statendam.
Bert,
You’re so right about the helicopter experience and the glacier majesty. While the views are magnificent, the landing and walking around provide life long bragging rights and memories. Thanks for the professional photos that come alive with your skills. Keep ’em coming!
Yours,
Eric Wood and Family
