Behind the Scenes: Feeding the Crew

Herminio Pagtalunan, the Filipino personnel cook.

I thought I would take a moment to tell you all about the crew food service on board. We actually have two crew messrooms and our officers dine in the Lido Restaurant with the guests. Our personnel cooks are responsible for providing good, homemade food for our crew messroom and petty officer messroom.

The cuisine in the crew messroom errs on the side of Asian cuisine, as all of our crew-level staff are from Asian countries — mainly Indonesia and the Philippines. The PO mess features a mix of Asian and western flavors to satisfy the more diverse taste of those crew members.

Our personnel cooks do their best to make the comfort food of their home countries so all the crew can feel at home. They cook four meals a day to satisfy the needs of approximately 500 people! Among other items, on an average 12-day cruise they go through 2,500 pounds of chicken and an astounding 4,000 pounds of rice!

Well, that’s it for now. See you out there!
