May 1996: HAL’s fleet grew to eight as ms Veendam IV entered service. The 55,451-ton, 1,627-passenger vessel embarked on its maiden voyage on May 15, 1996 after being christened by actress Debbie Reynolds who served as Godmother.
On May 11th, ms Ryndam made the first-ever stop by a Holland America Line ship at Ulvik, Norway, located on the left of the three small fjords at the end of Hardangerfjord.
