As an apprentice officer, he was on multipurpose cargo vessels and roll-on, roll-off vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He obtained a bachelor\u2019s degree in Maritime operations from the Nautical College of Rotterdam and was hired by Holland America Line in 2001 at the age of 24.
