Holland America Academy: Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

I don't have a personal IATAN number.

This number is optional and is not necessary in order to register with HAL Academy. We use this number to further identify U.S. and Canadian agents.

I took the exam but haven't heard any results yet.

Test results are shown at the end of each exam, and an email is sent to students verifying their test results. If you have not received your test results, please send us an email with your user name and password, name and agency, so we may follow up.

I've lost my password.

Please click on the "Forgotten password?" link on the home page to provide us with your name and email address. You will automatically be sent an email with your user name and password. Please do not re-register if you have forgotten your user name or password. We routinely remove duplicate registrations.

I have questions about the content of the courses.

We welcome questions or comments about our training program. You may send them to us at halacademy@hollandamerica.com.

I was in the middle of taking the exam and had to leave (or my system crashed). Can I get back to where I was?

You will have all the time you need to complete the exam, however if you leave the exam, accidentally drop off, or fail the exam, and return for another attempt, you will receive a different version of the exam each time.

I have not taken the exam but I received an email message telling me I failed the exam. What can I do?

If you go to the exam to review it, the program will think you are there to take the exam. If you don't answer the questions, the program sends you an email message saying you have a failing grade. But the only exam that counts is the last one you take and you may take the exam as often as you like. You may go to the exam site and print out the exam for review, but keep in mind that every time you go online to take the exam, you will receive mostly different questions, so printing out the exam and looking up the answers is of limited value. We do this in order that you will study all the course content and that exam questions do not get passed around the office. When you are ready to take the exam, go online, complete all questions and submit it online. You do not have to fax us anything. Every time you enter the exam site you will be notified of a passing or failing grade.

I have moved agencies, how do I update my details?

You can update your details any time by logging in at the Student Center and click on "Update Contact Information". Please do not re-register. If you re-register any exams you have passed already will no longer be valid.

I graduated prior to the program being offered online am I still a graduate?

Yes, you are a HAL Academy graduate. However, we offer travel professionals who studied from the workbook the oppurtunity to take the online exams so they may experience the courses and exams online.

I am a HAL Academy graduate, what benefits do I receive?

Benefits are detailed on this site and can be accessed any time from the home page under "benefits".

I have not received my graduate certificate, why?

Each certificate is personalized with your name, hand-signed and mailed to you so please allow at least 10-15 business days (depending on your location).
