Yes we just came back from an amazing trip to South America/Antarctica. I can't say anything but positive comments. We are total fans because they strive for excellence. Everything about our cruise was first class all the way. We were on the cruise for 3 weeks and it was fabulous. Every day was a pleasant surprise from our cabin steward to the Captain. Buenos Aires, Argentina

Cruise to Buenos Aires

The lone cowboy rides across the open prairie as he surveys the fertile land before him. Only this storyline isn’t in West Texas. Rather, the cowboy, or gaucho as he is known, is in central Argentina, and the fertile lowlands before him are known as the pampas. A cruise to Buenos Aires with Holland America Line takes you to one of the cultural and commercial capitals of South America. Yet what distinguishes this 21st-century metropolis from other cities of the same ilk is its proximity to the country and, in turn, country living.

Explore the City Further Your cruise from Buenos Aires will allow you to spend a few days before or (if you are disembarking) after to explore this city more fully. To learn more about hotel packages that will extend your cruise vacation, please contact your travel professional or Holland America Line.

Callao (Lima), Peru

Cruise to Lima

The lemon-colored Convento de San Francisco was built over a century starting in 1673. The Plaza Mayor was laid out under the direction of conquistador Francisco Pizarro. The Cathedral of Lima was built starting in 1535 and while it seems construction has never quite stopped, the church retains its colonial facade. These structures and more form the historic center of Lima, which UNESCO has collectively designated as a World Heritage Site. The grand old buildings attest to Lima's longtime role as one of the queen cities of the Spanish empire. Today's cruise visitors will find an economic power, a financial center, and, thanks to Spanish, Andean, and Asian influences, one of the gastronomic capitals of the Americas.

Valparaiso (Santiago), Chile

Cruise to Santiago

The port of Valparaiso is a steep amphitheater so remarkable for its brightly colored residences and church steeples that UNESCO has declared its historic quarter a World Heritage site. Ride one of the city's many funiculars to take in the views town and sea. About two hours inland, the steeps of the Andes rise up behind Santiago, the country's capital and economic center. A good first stop for cruise visitors is the ornately architectured Santa Lucia hill. Get your bearings, then explore city landmarks like the Plaza de Armas, La Chascona (one of Pablo Neruda's homes), or one of the paseos in the Centro. At the end of the day, toast the city with a glass of Carménère, cherry, deep-red, and smoky.

Manaus, Brazil

Cruise to Manaus

It's a port city, but the ocean is almost a thousand miles away. One of the world's great boomtowns, Manaus rose to glory as the rubber trade exploded in the late 19th century, minting fortunes and redefining extravagance for its nouveau riche. All the better for today's visitors, as the boom-time landmarks still enchant. The Teatro Amazonas is a copy of the Grand Opera de Paris, the Mercado Municipal echoes Les Halles, and the Palacio Rio Negro evokes old Portugal. Of course, the endless jungle stretches all around. From Manaus, cruise visitors can venture even deeper into the heart of the Amazon, on the lookout for jungle birds, manatees, and giant alligators.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Cruise to Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro resists all adjectives. Even if you get that absolute vista from the top of Corcovado Mountain, you'll still thirst for more – for the taste of an acai berry drink, the pulse of samba, and the feel of the Atlantic on your toes. Drink deeply, you have such a journey before you. A cruise to Rio de Janeiro with Holland America Line brings you the stunning setting and joyous lust for life make Rio a cidade maravilhosa, "marvelous city." Ipanema, Copacabana, samba - the words alone conjure Brazilian paradise. Learn more.

Devils Island, French Guiana

Devils Island, French Guiana

Cruise to Devil's Island

As much a metaphor for endurance and rebirth as a location on a map, Devil's Island was once an infamous French penal colony. Today, it helps facilitate French space launches and welcomes thousands of cruise visitors every year. What's called "Devil's Island" is actually a group of three volcanic islands just off the coast of French Guiana collectively known as the Salvation Islands. The islands are beautiful, but to former prisoners they were the "Green Hell." Come ashore and tour the ghostly ruins.

There are no shore excursions offered at Devil's Island.

Do You Offer A Cancellation Protection Plan?

Holland America Line's Cancellation Protection Plan (CPP) is designed to help protect your vacation investment from loss. CPP is available for purchase on Holland America Line Cruises and Land+Sea Journeys, and is offered as a Standard Plan or a Platinum Plan. Be it illness, family matters, unforeseen work events - anything, CPP is a product that enables you to cancel your vacation plans before you leave, for any reason and receive a refund.

Four reasons to choose the Holland America Line Cancellation Protection Plan:

  1. YOU CAN CANCEL BEFORE DEPARTURE FOR ANY REASON. Even if it's up to 24 hours before departure under our Standard Plan or right up to departure with our Platinum Plan. Your reservation may be easily cancelled for any reason whatsoever - no claim forms to submit or fine print to review.

  2. YOU GET MONEY BACK. Holland America Line refunds 80-90% of eligible amounts paid, regardless of your reason for canceling, as long as you cancel more than 24 hours prior to departure (right up to departure with the Platinum Plan).

  3. SAME PRICE FOR ALL AGES. We offer the same excellent protection for everyone, at the same cost.

  4. NO PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS. Our Standard and Platinum Plans do not contain pre-existing condition exclusions.

Unforeseen events do happen. When you book your next cruise, be sure to ask about our Cancellation Protection Plans to protect your cruise investment.

CPP Standard Plan – Provided by Holland America Line

Our Standard Cancellation Protection Plan (CPP Standard Plan) will allow you, for any reason, to provide written cancellation up to 24 hours prior to the start of your scheduled travel (sea, land and/or air) arrangements made by Holland America Line and receive a refund equal to 80% of the eligible amounts paid. CPP Standard is available to all guests, regardless of residency.

In addition, Holland America Line (HAL) automatically assumes an additional $500 (USD) of liability for lost, damaged or delayed baggage of guests who purchase the CPP Standard Plan still subject, however, to the limitations in our baggage policies. For example, we do not cover losses while baggage is in the custody of airlines. Please review our Baggage Policy.

Please note: The CPP Standard Plan is not insurance – this is an optional purchase offered by and administered by Holland America Line. It may be added to your reservation to provide you with trip cancellation protection for up to 24 hours prior to the start of your scheduled travel. It provides no rights other than those explained above. For example, it does not protect double-triple-quad occupancy rates should one or more members of your party cancel, nor does it cover expenses for unused services due to trip interruption.

The CPP Standard Plan is available for purchase prior to the date on which cancellation fees begin to accrue. Payment is due at time of purchase. The cost of CPP Standard is non-refundable. The per person, per cruise cost is listed with the cruise fares. To add our Cancellation Protection Standard Plan to your new or existing bookings, please call us at 1‐877‐932‐4259.
