Grand South America & Antarctica Voyages
Two continents, a million memories
A complete circumnavigation, from Incan empires to Brazilian beaches, icy Antarctica to the steamy Amazon — all roundtrip from Ft. Lauderdale aboard ms Prinsendam.
It is classic cruising—aboard the smallest and most intimate ship in our fleet—what better way to experience these southernmost continents in style.
If you’re going to visit South America, why not see it all: every key region plus all three big “A”s — the Peruvian Andes, Brazil’s exotic Amazon, the ethereal ice world of Antarctica.
Yes we just came back from an amazing trip to South America/Antarctica. I can't say anything but positive comments. We are total fans because they strive for excellence. Everything about our cruise was first class all the way. We were on the cruise for 3 weeks and it was fabulous. Every day was a pleasant surprise from our cabin steward to the Captain. Thank you Holland America LineMarsha N.
Went around "the horn" last March and loved every minute, South America is so amazing!Julie G.

Cruise to Buenos Aires
They dance the tango in the street in this South American cultural and commercial capital. Because celebrations are simply a way of life here, local passions for excellent food and wine prevail as well. As world famous ports go, Buenos Aires offers the best of everything from luxe country living, to modern highlights, to more rustic excursions to the pampas — the fertile lowland ranches where gaucho cowboys roam and work. Gifts from the sea and land make for the most joyous of occasions while ashore. Plan on extending your stay in Buenos Aires so you can spend more time before or after your cruise and explore this intriguing city more comprehensively. Please contact your travel professional or Holland America Line to learn more.
Cruise to Pt. Stanley, Falkland Islands/Malvinas/Islas Malvinas
Scotland under the Southern Cross: moorlands, pubs, red phone booths, sheep ranches, a "cuppa tea." Plus penguins of every type: gentoo, Magellanic, king.
Cruise to Manaus
It's a port city, but the ocean is almost a thousand miles away. One of the world's great boomtowns, Manaus rose to glory as the rubber trade exploded in the late 19th century, minting fortunes and redefining extravagance for its nouveau riche. All the better for today's visitors, as the boom-time landmarks still enchant. The Teatro Amazonas is a copy of the Grand Opera de Paris, the Mercado Municipal echoes Les Halles, and the Palacio Rio Negro evokes old Portugal. Of course, the endless jungle stretches all around. From Manaus, cruise visitors can venture even deeper into the heart of the Amazon, on the lookout for jungle birds, manatees, and giant alligators.
Cruise to Lima
Spain’s former capital of their vast New World empire retains its wealth of cultural and historical character from centuries of colonial activity, breathtaking natural beauty, and indigenous wonders from Inca times and even earlier. Most visitors on a Holland America Line cruise have an overnight stay in Callao, affording opportunity to take advantage of Lima as the gateway to Machu Picchu, once abandoned by the Incas and rediscovered by Europeans in 1911. The mountaintop escape provided a secure locale to build intricately designed altars, temples, and other extraordinary archaeological remnants. In Lima, UNESCO designated the historic district a World Heritage Site due to the collection of Baroque architecture. Note that the Spanish built their grand Plaza de Armas directly above foundations laid in stone by Inca master builders for their own uses. Today, visitors also enjoy Lima's gastronomic history which employs Spanish, Andean, and European influences.
Lima, the gateway for travel to Machu Picchu, also has celebrated ancient and modern treasures within. UNESCO has Lima's historic plaza on its list of World Heritage Sites, as its grand old buildings attest to Lima's longtime role as one of the queen cities of the Spanish empire.
Cruise to Rio de Janeiro
Rio de Janeiro resists all adjectives. Even if you get that absolute vista from the top of Corcovado Mountain, you'll still thirst for more – for the taste of an acai berry drink, the pulse of samba, and the feel of the Atlantic on your toes. Drink deeply, you have such a journey before you. A cruise to Rio de Janeiro with Holland America Line brings you the stunning setting and joyous lust for life make Rio a cidade maravilhosa, "marvelous city." Ipanema, Copacabana, samba - the words alone conjure Brazilian paradise. Learn more.
Explore the City Further
Your cruise from Rio de Janeiro will allow you to spend a few days before or (if you are disembarking) after to explore this city more fully. To learn more about hotel packages that will extend your cruise vacation, please contact your travel professional or Holland America Line.
Cruise to Valparaiso (Santiago)
Find the UNESCO World Heritage site in the Old Quarter of Valparaiso, which hugs its steep amphitheater-like hillside peppered with bright and colorful residences and charming church steeples. Ride one of the city's many funiculars to take in the views of land and sea. About two hours inland, the steppes of the Andes rise up behind Santiago, Chile's capital and economic center. Explore such city landmarks as the Plaza de Armas, La Chascona (one of Pablo Neruda's homes), or one of the paseos in the Centro. But first, consider stopping for a stroll up Santa Lucia hill, which features ornate designs and architecture. Get your bearings, then toast the city at the end of the day with a glass of Carménère, cherry, deep-red, and smoky.
Part of Chile's culinary explosion revolves around its huge wine production as well as other European influences that combine with traditional ingredients. Visit alpine villages, art studios, vineyards, or thriving fish markets; or take cooking classes or tour architectural wonders — so much to do and all for pure enjoyment.
Cruise to Ushuaia
The southernmost town in the world, where dominating peaks loom on three sides; the fourth opens to the Beagle Channel, where sea lions bellow and king crab rules.
Holland America Line is hosting some of the world’s most celebrated guest culinary experts who will showcase their expertise and share culinary tips with guests aboard ms Prinsendam's 68-day South America & Antartica Voyage.
