Board an air-conditioned coach at the cruise center and depart on a guided island drive. Leaving the cruise center, you’ll drive past the former United States Air Force facility where astronaut John Glen was debriefed after his historic space flight in 1962. Later, pass by a replica of John Glen’s Space Capsule, which stands at the entrance to the International Airport. Continue past Waterloo—built in 1815 and home to His Excellency the Governor, the representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. During the drive you’ll view several 18th-century churches, beautiful Bermudian-style buildings, salt salinas (remnants of the island’s former salt industry) and many wild horses and donkeys freely roaming the streets. Enjoy a 15-minute stop at Lighthouse Park to discover an old working lighthouse and the breathtaking views from the trails overlooking the turquoise seas and live reef below. You’ll also stop at the Grand Quay Salt Company, also known as the Salt House. Learn more about the island’s salt raking history, taste some traditional treats ,and browse at the gift shop before heading back to port.
